Sequential hermaphroditism (called dichogamy in botany) is one of the two types of hermaphroditism, the other type being simultaneous hermaphroditism. It occurs when the organism's sex changes at some point in its life.

I recently found some garden snails and threw them in a terrarium for my wife as pets, and me more for observation and curiosity.
They are very interesting creatures. They too are hermaphrodites. I also found out they need another snail to mate, can hold on to sperm from one snail, get with another and use that sperm to get pregnant, then use the old stuff later if they need it.
I have become fascinated and have plans for a snail farm in the near future.
Crazy what happens when you find something while walking the dogs.
