A goalie I work with was offered a full ride to be the starting goalie at Bemidji Minnesota State.

Denver & North Dakota seem interested, but haven't made any commitments yet. I've had goalies play at both those programs, but no one at Bemidji.

Do they have a good hockey team? I believe this goalie to be NHL good. He's coming from 5 seasons in the WHL. I want to make sure the NCAA program he goes to can set him up to make the next step to pro.

Bemidji is 100% legit. Very good hockey. Very good schedule they play too.

They’ve sent a fair share of guys to the NHL.

Thanks for the insight 🫡

Here’s the thing. The player portal has made it very tough to predict playing time for college kids. Unless they get a full ride & 100% guarantee, players move around so much now that positions can be taken quickly. Playing time matters. He may make North Dakota etc but may never see the net.

That's the discussion I had with his parents, earlier today.

Bemidji is offering him to be the starter as soon as he comes in. With only 30-ish games per season, getting starts is important.

Good man. Good advice.

stepping stone program. Matt Read came out of Bemidji State. a few others have seen NHL ice.. Andrew Murray with the Jackets and journeyman Brad Hunt. not much for goalies tho. Zane McIntyre put in some development there before transferring to North Dakota. played a bit for the Bruins but mostly an AHL workhorse.

Thanks for the info 🫡

So far, it seems to be a pretty decent option for him. We'll buy a bit of time and see if other options become available, but so far so good.

where in WHL?

Unfortunately, I can't say, until commitments are made.
