**voluntary** KYC for an npub would be kind of useful. very simple, take a picture of these three things:

- Your face

- Some government ID

- the npub in question

Timestamp it.

You could use that npub for any "official business" - like agreements between parties who don't otherwise trust each other, say on https://attestr.app

Two people who don't know each other but are known to other people in the world could publicly post their (properly KYC'd) agreements in public.

You could do also on nostr:npub1d0csynrrxcynkcedktdzrdj6gnras2psg48mf46kxjazs8skrjgq9uzhlq, with full privacy (unless you choose to export and share an unencrypted copy)

lol wait, nostr:npub1d0csynrrxcynkcedktdzrdj6gnras2psg48mf46kxjazs8skrjgq9uzhlq exists...? why did I build attestr.app ?

We're only active on Nostr, Matrix, and Simplex

We also had a long quiet build period to get a stable version out

We got refused funding twice, so it's completely bootstrapped and VC-free

Shout out to nostr:npub1rmhkv82w0khu0uv4egegkrtkjnlggdhrns0qxdhcp0r7wplhfkts94ya4n who offered us a small amount at the start (~ 2 days of dev) - although we weren't able to accept, at the time.

SIGit has absorbed around 1,800 hours

Some of that was mistakes, more was lost due to tools (we made several PRs to ndk and other places)

we learned a lot along the way. It's not finished yet but it is ready to use and we are actively seeking feedback

Attestr looks cool. We need more tools like this. Nostr was built for proving stuff

Ooh look Mr. self-custody Bitcoin is suddenly all KYC.
