I miss forums.

Why did they die?

There's an argument that discord was the final blow, but really, if that was the case, irc and other chat would have ended them long ago.

Reddit (and its clones) is likely a major contributor, it's forum like but also micro blog.

Discuss is the last hold out, but that thing is such a mess, I don't know how people even use it.

The real question: is there any popular place left for long form archieved content?

I guess there is only reddit except for the last few niche communities holding onto smf, phpbb, and friends.

All we needed was something like nostr to let us log into various communities and forums without individual accounts for each.

Anyone remember firefox persona? (not the theme thing) It was a self controled identity that could log into sites that supported it, much like nostr.

Where do we have long form, well thought, discussions that might take place over days without getting lost in the mess?

Damn. Forums were truly magical place. Made friends and enemies alike. Got scammed, and scammed folks too, all for the love of the hustle.

Learnt a great deal of stuffs. Its was there where i learnt about addblockers, bitcoin, opensource stuffs, tech.

I remember cyphers being left to solve and prizes were mostly a irc channel access.

Man damn now I feel sad all of a sudden. Where are those folks! How might they have been. I remember it was the time of skype. We had groups over there for p2p communication.

There was a beautiful video of a forum discussion on a video game forum let me search it. It made me almost tear up lol.

Found it. See this gem of a video. I miss forums and what it stood for.
