I did exactly the same around 2012/13. I had used Mac's since '97 but ultimately became more and more disillusioned with Apple. Now I buy used Thinkpads and install Linux on them.

at some point the EU will make encryption illegal forcing apple and co to implement backdoors, so the switch to linux is inevitable.

I'm so glad I don't live in the EU but I expect the EU to break up & collapse in the not so distant future.
