I do have a very old-fashioned view about the practice of medicine. That is to say, go to the doctor when you have a bone poking through your skin and that’s about it. So I truly have no idea what goes on in medicine now.
Both my grandfathers were doctors, but they basically said “you’ll be fine” unless something was living in your ear or your airways were blocked and you had to get your kid on the phone with the doctor to do your own tracheotomy to breathe again, or you were giving birth in your car, or if a tractor had run over your head and inadvertently scalped you (all these things happened—and these folks all were fine in the end, “thanks doc!, can I pay you in a five gallon barrel of raw honey, I don’t have any money. Yes? Great!”).
It was a different time.
