It really does seem like one of the big reasons that games suck so hard now is not just the lack of optimisation knowledge going on with DEI devs.
If it's anything slightly more complex than using a third person template they completely fall apart which is why the cock up such basic things like putting together an RTS in the first place and avoid the whole genre. I think they stay away from the more interesting genres because they're too incompetent to put a basic prototype together and only know how to do tick boxes and basic visual programming because those are the types of people they've hired.
