Mike, probably a dumb question but would I have to partition my laptops SSD to have Start9 AND MacOS? Or can I run Start9 as a program on top of my OS?

I'm not an expert, I run Start9 on a dedicated Lenovo NUC with 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD.

However, I believe the difference between Start9 and Umbrel is that Start9 is an OS, which means you will at least need a partition to run it, but if you're going to partition a machine, that means that your Start9 will not be running all the time.

That is a consideration in terms of keeping it synced to the blockchain and using it as your gateway to make payments and explore the blockchain.

Makes sense..I”ll look into Umbrel. Although it’s possible, I’m not sure I want to dedicate an entire MBP as a server/node. Thanks!

Have you considered a dedicated Raspberry Pi + SSD (around $200 total cost).

2 of my nodes are Pi's, I'm gradually replacing them with more powerful machines, but Pi's work just fine.

You want a dedicated machine for this. Don’t run a node on your daily machine, run it elsewhere. Decently spec’d out mini pc is totally fine for the foreseeable future.

i run mine on my old lenovo ideapad 3... any laptop with the ability to accept some kind of 500Mb/s speed SSD or better is suitable, that's a pretty low bar, you can probably pick up this type of laptop for under $150 in most places nowadays second hand
