Did you add any butter or something to the pan before putting the meat on?
Totally dry. Heated to rocket hot and steaks put directly on.
Cool and did you cover it to cook at all? This is inspiring me to pick up a cast iron skillet and give it a try this weekend instead of cooking directly on the grill

What brand of cast iron do you use?
I think this one is a Griswold. Hard to tell without sandblasting it. It’s ancient.
Lodge is good but the old ones were polished on the surface so are very nonstick.
I cook my steaks on cast iron as well. Although I use a coleman propane campstove instead of coals. And I throw them right on the pan as well.
