Kids can't make their own decisions like that.
Get them in a consistent routine and lots of exercise
Oh 100%! I guess my issue is we still need a nap but that leads to a far too late bedtime... I guess it is just this transition phase.
Sorry Iām not much help here. My daughter refused naps but was on a sleep schedule of 6pm to 5am mostly.
Routine changed with age.
What age is yours?
Toddler! I guess we are on this tough nap transition phase. 7am wake with a nap leads to 9:30 bedtime which feels late and is tough.
Gotcha. Maybe just nap as needed and try to avoid if possible. Will hopefully lead to better sleep. Always tricky times with kids though. Every single one is different for sure. Any routine you can come up with is good. Routine worked wonders for us. Stayed the same 7 days a week.
Best of luck and hope all goes well.

Couple things I find true. You can't control when they finally are tired enough to fall asleep, but you can control when they wake up. So I change the time I wake them up to adjust their schedules.
And restful sleep at night. With one of my kids, I would let him sleep solid for the beginning of naptime but would go in his and stir him up in intervals to make sure he slept through the night. I was so frustrated that he could take a four hour nap without waking up but couldn't sleep fours at time during the night... Well I fixed that.
Most toddlers need about five hours between nap and bed, so figure out how much time your kiddo needs and then wake him up accordingly from his nap.
5 hours is so true š
On days I really really wear my kid out physically before nap and bedtime I can enforce a standard nap/bedtime window that's earlier than whatever he's in the mood for in the moment.
