As an update on my (probably bad) hobby sci fi book, I’m up to 45,000 words written.

Very enjoyable to write. The first draft is 40% completed.

That’s amazing progress. What a nice way to spend your time.

Very cool! Are you following any kind of specific plot structure like 5 point, 7 point, Save the Cat, etc.?

My book concept purposely violates most plot structures in favor of character, which I think is a good thing. Readers spend more than half the time figuring out who to even cheer for, which I think is realistic. I’ve got other tropes, like a mad scientists and some villain with a scar on their face, but those are pretty intentional. The whole well-trodden act or plot structure is purposely different.

Nice to hear your intentional thoughts regarding that and the tropes; sounds like an interesting read. I’ve written and edited 2 novels (fantasy and urban fantasy) and am looking into Nostr’r Creatr as a possible way to release them chapter by chapter. Congratulations on your word count! I’d be happy to be a beta reader later if you’d like.

Ooh, I'm gonna go checkout nostr'r creatr.

you are incredibly versatile. i admire and am (benevolently) jealous of your intellect

my son is reading some Heinlein today and it occurred to me that the 50s 60s 70s were the golden age of science fiction... newer stuff just feels so different. like fake saccharin sweet. -just not quite right.

looking forward to yours.

My default in the meantime would be to recommend some Brandon Sanderson. He has a blend of fantasy and sci fi that appeals to many.

Any starter sci fi book you recommend for a non reader whose only experience was the movie matrix ? 😐😬

Manifesting 100k, the sci-fi way.

Prolific!

That’s impressive!

💪

Awesome, congrats! I'm writing mine too 🙏🏻

what's it about? back cover synopsis 😀

A detective trying to deal with a terrorist with strange powers.

That sounds elite and original.

Eager to read.

Who is the detective?

Fun!

Someone just recommended "The Quantum Thief" by Hannu Rajaniemi to me. It's a sci-fi detective story if you want inspiration. Supposed to be a bit of a tough read though...

What are some of your favorite sci-fi books?

Can’t wait!

Have you been leveraging any GenAI tools for this?

Solid Lyn! Enjoy the creative process ✨

Wow that pace is amazing. Let me know when it’s time to turn it into a book. Happy to do it!

It’s important to move on, even better when every word counts.

Damn, that's fast! Keep going!

Found this glossary of sci-fi technology terms on HackerNews today.

Thought it might prove useful.

Add an intergalactic race that hunts communism. 😬

When did you start it!?

Nice. Utopian future? Balanced free market? Awesome discoveries?

You are fast! ! 💪✨

Of course it's probably bad, it's your first sci-fi book, it will teach you much. Is there something Broken Money taught you that you are using in this novel?
