try a natural path maybe, i never "felt" mans religious interpretations /* just my experience from a young age/*
I think if god /gods exist, then him/they prefere you not to believe then believe in wrong one.
So from my point of view believe has greater risk :)
I know at least one religion which consider non-believers "not people" or free to kill non-humas.
