I have an honest question: if one doesn’t want to see a single mention of bitcoin, where can they go on Nostr?

Maybe they don’t want to hear about bitcoin because they don’t like it, or maybe their government bans it..

💯

Unfollow anyone who talks about bitcoin and invite your non-bitcoin friends to follow you. I don’t feel like that’s an honest question but that’s the answer.

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️new user asks valid & important question, provides feedback on new user experience. questions to honest concerns are brushed aside. corn, I realize you & I may never see eye to eye, & that’s ok, I still respect your opinion, & open discussion… but if nostr is to grow Matt’s point is very valid.

Good answer. I am now curious what accounts are the “suggested” account when someone new joins nostr via one of the top clients.

I know user discovery is one of the biggest roadblock for newcomers. You’ve given me the idea to experiment to see what a non-bitcoin nostr feed looks like by starting a new account

Nostr.band is probably the best search tool right now, but search/discovery needs to improve a lot. Another thing you can try is to use someone else’s public key to login to a client. You’ll see Nostr from their perspective, you just can’t post anything as them because you don’t have their private key. But find an account that you like and login with their public key, and you might find some good follows that way too.

Great advice for a seasoned user. But newbie won’t know this, or about the website. Newbies downloaded nostr app most likely, & that’s all they know.

And if they ask people will tell them and help them. You have to take a little initiative. That will change over time I’m sure.

What is the best implimentation for search within events (so far)? Discovery of who to follow would be aided with the ability to search for specific phrases against all events...

I realize it's expensive in processor power, but I think worth the price tag, and "how to provide pay services" to realay and client users is a puzzle piece that must be solved anyway.

Try the nostr.band website. It aggregates from multiple relays and has the best search feature I’ve found so far.

We’ve got a public Kibana instance you can play with as well at https://search.nostr.wine

Our event db is a good bit smaller than nostr.band but you can construct more complex queries. It also is available by API: https://docs.nostr.wine/api/search

This is great! Thanks I’ll check it out 💜🔥

I have been trying different tools for search. So far the best one is https://nostrview.com/ => this one returns result for text search in quotes on events, and with the results it shows a list of multiple relays where the event was found.

Anyone know where I can find the source for https://nostrview.com/ ? Would like to read the code to see what they are doing differently. 😁

When I was on Twitter, I usually didn't read anything about Ethereum and that shitcoins.

And people talk about shitcoins in Twitter...

So, the process is the same. Don't wanna read, don't follow.

Sounds like a feature request to be - filter out notes by keyword or tag

It would be a great feature
