Of course it is important for #Germany that #nuclear power is somehow excluded from EU funding:
“Our European economy needs affordable, fast and vast amounts of renewable energy,” said Giegold at an event held by the Danish Embassy in Berlin. (…) “It is important to exclude nuclear energy and its production from all EU funding,” the German politician said.
But the reason is not climate or safety, because Germany’s CO2 emissions are 10x higher than say France’s or Sweden (both nuclear). The main reason is that under the delusional model of “100% renewabless” invented by Germany with the help of Gazprom, the country is going to become less and less competitive and gradually become outliers as other countries acquire more low-carbon dispatchable generating capacity from nuclear, while Germany sticks to excessively redundant capacity in “renewables plus gas”.
As a reminder, new investments in nuclear power are announced by #France, #Netherlands, UK, #Sweden, #Finland, #Estonia, #Poland, #Czechia, #Slovakia, #Bulgaria, #Romania, #Hungary and #Slovenia.
