European Twitter exploded following yesterday’s rants by US and Russian hardliners calling to “abolish EU”.

Lots of voices like “we need European social media!!”

And I said, “actually, you know what, we kind of have one for years…” 😆

Some people started complaining “but nobody uses Mastodon” and I once again had no choice but to explain that if “nobody uses” then how come I’ve got 3k+ followers here and engaging in truly interesting discussions not less often than there😁

There’s two data points where Fediverse can be indeed seen as less attractive than US cortisol aggregators:

• number of engagements, but granted that up to 60-70% of these on Twitter are generated by bots who cares? Maybe media advertising agencies do, but I don’t.

• presence of public persons - this is where Fediverse actually loses, because it’s a network that grows between them and can’t be “invited”

Carefully worded statement by Radek Sikorski, #Poland MFA, mentions “19 violations of Polish air space Russian-made drones”. He also says the drones “did not veer off course but were deliberately targeted”. I will post the video shortly.

As of 17:30, the total number of downed drones found in #Poland is 12. Drone debris has been found in 10 locations: Czosnówka, Cześniki, Krzywowierzba-Kolonia, Mniszków, Oleśno, Wielki Łan, Wohyń, Wyhalew, Wyryki, and Zabłocie-Kolonia.

So, let us summarise today’s events related to the intrusion of approximately 20 (at least) Russian drones into Polish territory…

Our Polish F-16s and Dutch F-35s took charge of the air contact and carried out the order to shoot down some of them.

The first centre (in Poland) that initially supervised, monitored the situation and guided the fighter jets was German radars and two German Patriot batteries located at the Jesionka-Rzeszów airport. German Patriot batteries were put on high alert and, in the event of an escalation, were to take on the task of opening fire on incoming targets that could not be shot down by fighter jets.

The initial coordinates of the flying drones were provided by the Ukrainian air defence forces.

Broad radar surveillance from the air and real-time transmission of situational data was carried out by an Italian AWACS early warning aircraft.

Due to the fact that a large group of F-16 and F-35 aircraft had to spend a lot of time in the air, a Dutch Airbus A330 tanker (MRTT) was urgently brought in from Rotterdam.

So Europe is managing, even without American help… We witnessed quite efficient and effective cooperation between Poland, the #Netherlands, #Germany, #Ukraine and #Italy.

#Russia ministry of defense officially replied with a rather nonsensical statement which doesn’t actually respond to any of the facts but instead only serves fueling confusing on the #NATO side:

No targets were planned on Polish territory.

This most likely means: “yes we fired them into Poland but with no intention of hitting anything so you shouldn’t consider this attack legally”. Logically, if NATO fires a rocket over Russia and it just hits a random town when it runs out of fuel it should not be considered an attack.

The Ministry of Defence emphasised that the maximum range of the Russian drones used in the strike was up to 700 km.

Logically, if NATO fires a rocket over Russia and says “it’s range is 700 km” then the attack didn’t happen. But logic doesn’t apply here - the sole purpose of this paragraph is to reassure the conspiracy theorists and Putinverstehers in EU.

Moscow is ready to hold consultations with the Polish Ministry of Defence on the situation with UAVs.

This simply reinforces the first message - “yes, we fired the drones at Poland, but it was not a real attack, only a routine provocation, now what”.

I suspect this is very much the case. And then, if US defects, what the rest of NATO does. A very cheap way of testing NATO resolve and, possibly, demonstrating that the king is naked.

That’s how they were explaining what has just happened to their readers. Minutes later they posted another narrative, claiming “Lithuania minister said the attack wasn’t intentional”.

These contradictory messages are an intentional tactics whose purpose is to push their readers into a kind of suspended hibernation state where the only conclusion they have is “we can’t know what is true”.

If you’re concerned about your sons being drafted, why don’t you ask your comrades in Russia to overthrow the neo-imperialist Putin’s regime and stop the war they started?

It’s the simplest way to stop the war - simply let Russians return to their homes in the internationally recognised borders of Russia and stop attacking Ukraine.

There’s one thing that should have been done long ago from military point of view - extend NATO air defense to the Western Ukraine. But it had been always presented as some kind of “escalation” - aka “how do you dare to interfere with Russian missiles hitting Ukraine”. But today #Russia has just granted #NATO an excellent pretext to forget about this nonsense - we’re shooting Russian missiles to protect Polish and NATO air space after Russia had violated it.
