I’m no electrician or mechanic, but I’m fairly certain the power generated from the alternator is due to the spinning of the motor. The pulleys/belts spin and create the energy. So the energy is coming from the potential energy of the motor that is already spinning.

In other words, the alternator isn’t tapping into the fuel source, it’s using the energy created from something that is already spinning.

Your analogy would be like saying that the power created from a water mill needs to use extra water to create the power. Thats not the case. The water is already flowing. The mill is just capturing the potential energy.

what makes the motor spin?

oh yeah, burning fuel

it's not as cheap as off peak electricity in your house, i guarantee it, it took a lot more energy to get it into your fuel tank than the trainloads of coal going to the power plant and the installation of the grid is mostly a one time cost that makes up for the line loss and transformer loss

But I’m already driving… so it’s free because there is no additional use

It’s not like I’m just leaving my truck running in the driveway

The alternator resists spinning (otherwise you'd have free infinite energy)

so some of the fuel that could have been spent spinning the tires is instead spent spinning the alternator

But that happens whether or not I have a BitAxe plugged in or not

I absolutely love your beautiful little minds but can you stop being autistic for a minute and understand what is actually happening in the real world

I say this as a self-identified retarded autist so I don’t mean it with disrespect

"As the electrical demand goes up, the alternator puts an increased load on the belt, and therefore the engine, to make that juice."

"If the engine is spinning the alternator is spinning and producing power. This is regulated by a voltage regulator that will raise or lower the output voltage to either charge or maintain the charge level (float charge) in the battery.

So an alternator cant be turned off directly as it has a direct belt connection to the engine. However you can turn off the resistance of the alternator and have it freely spin by the regulator setting a voltage slightly lower than the battery."

At the end of the day, I’m adding to the hash rate with no or negligible cost

I also realize that the “free” wifi I’m getting is having that data tracked and collected. I’m happy that every time my truck is powered on I’m sending out a signal on how much I value Bitcoin and the bitcoin network
