These protein structures are apparently huge and plentiful. I think it's weird that this vault is produced primarily in vertebrates (animals) and not insects, (most) fungi, nor plants.
My gut reaction to this information is... what if the reason scientists haven't found out what vaults are used for in the cell is because they are used to provide extra nutrition to other creatures when consumed?
Hence vertebrates would be healthier to eat than insects, plants, or fungi.
IDK just a hunch, haha
