Well, I think part of it was that we're new to motorhomes, and the guy I flagged down who used to be a mechanic thought it was the alternator when it didn't start, but it turned out that we had two 6v batteries as house batteries, and we didn't know until much later, so God actually protected us from way worse things that could have happened given our misuse of those 6v batteries 😬

So, we learned a lot, and will probably always try to bring at least one solar panel with us from now on, until we get them installed on the roof.

I had an idea that might have worked, but since I don't know vehicles very well, and when two men who have both worked on cars at least some, didn't seem to think it would matter, I didn't push it. It may still not have worked in our case, but had we had some use of the starter battery, it probably would have.

Haha, apparently I need to learn to stick up for myself even when I don't seem to have any authority in an area, cause my ideas may be inspired from God who has all the authority and knowledge 😅

Well, our motorhome is from 1999, so not quite over 30 years, but almost 😅

I grew up with manual cars, so I am familiar with that method of starting an engine, not sure it works the same with automatic transmissions though 🤔

I have a memory of us pushing the car around a parking lot to get it started, and also hooking it to another car that dragged it started for a little bit. It's really cool how that can work!

Yeah, no go with auto. But why auto, they cost in transmission efficiency. Same motor, 10-20% less power.

Cause this is America, and everything is automatic 🙄

yeah, that would never have flown in australia. pretty sure even today most dudes demand manual stick shift in australia, they certainly did 15 years ago. but it was starting to tilt very much in the wrong direction by 2000.

the less we interface with the machine directly, the more stupid and inefficient the machines get. and the engineers are getting more and more mushy between the ears as well, adding feature after complex feature, and then everyone wonders why these things have such high maintenance cost and short lifespans.

a less mechanical example i saw playing out circa 2007 with the european ROHS directive. they removed lead from solder, and instantly, motherboards were dying at 2-5 years, if you were lucky the day after the warranty expired, it would be ded. i worked in a computer store at the time and the number of dead on arrival pcs, and personally, my own hardware also was doing the same thing. runs ok for a while but then the inevitable dry joints because lead is just so much better than only tin and silver, for electrical conductivity.

They also require more heat. I know cause my dad develops electronics, both hardware and software, and I worked for him for a bit where I built circuit boards.

Amen, it's true!
