So I finally talked to some people over 1500 miles away and successfully shared a Lightning invoice on #bitchat via a geohash. It was #9q in California. Which was trés cool.

I checked that channel today and it’s just an endless stream of random character messages from different users. Is this some kind of DOS attack?

Using Nym, I can still see ongoing conversation in #9q. No random characters. Though, plenty of nonsense conversations!

Yes the spam flood is over it seems

Does nym have pow? Bitchat sets 12-bit pow by default when you turn it on

There are intermittent spam floods in bitchat, yes. Try nym.bar, it seems more resilient to the spam flooding.

Bitchat has proof of work which helps a ton

I find nym.bar had much better spam filtering, I never see it there, but ymmv

I must be missing something. There's never anyone on up here in Canuckastan. Can I switch country relays somehow?

I’m still testing various things and there’s not much guidance yet. But I just found someone in #c2

That's why you enable proof of work. It doesn't stop at all, but it stops the vast majority of it.
