These sorts of folks are totally deranged.

Venmo and other centralized platforms are reporting people's personal transactions as income? What go wrong?
Wake up, people. Use your cash, gold, Bitcoin, and Monero. Stop using centralized services!

Happy #Christmas to all!
Besides the exposure, what's the incentive for devs?
I had one running previously, but it went down after I formatted the drive. It's definitely time to reinstall and use your guide. Thank you so much!
For those of less technically literate, would you recommend any tutorials on how to set something similar up? I've messed with gupax before but have zero clue how to hide everything behind Tor.
Thanks for the recommendations! I might just have to buckle down and order from overseas then. Have you considered any specific vendors?
Where did you order your meshtastic stuff? Is there a local supplier for the node, battery, and case here in Southeast Asia?
Honestly, you can't go wrong with either of those options. But if you have a local friend who uses Mint, that's not a bad distro to start with. Go for it!
I started with both Ubuntu and Mint, and both were fairly easy to install and use. Plus, there are numerous other users for both distros. Should you have an issue crop up, it's likely someone has already both experienced the issue and discovered a solution. If not, there are plenty of users and experts out there to help you.
Nice idea, but this presumably just for asknostr content. Is there any way to tweak this client to show all things I've subscribed to?
I'll give it a try! Thanks for the recommendation.
Any plans to release a browser-based client, npub1useke4f9maul5nf67dj0m9sq6jcsmnjzzk4ycvldwl4qss35fvgqjdk5ks?
Sounds good to me, but one big question immediately comes to mind: how to connect to the terminal-based client without pasting in my nsec?
I love that Nym.bar has geohash rooms.
Has anyone ever created a GoogleMaps alternative that uses geohash addresses? I messed around with what3words some years ago, but I understand it's proprietary, which goes against our ideals of free and open source technology.

Are you switching to a separate service/app? If so, which?
I turned off my VPN for the first time in forever to test something and forgot to switch it back on.
However, I finally caught it when I tried to go to Archive.today, only to find that my local ISP had blocked the site, claiming it was some kind of scam site. This is the first time I've ever encountered such a warning from my ISP, which goes to show that it really does pay to have a VPN. Who is my ISP to tell me whether I can use an alternative archiving site or not?!

What do you like best about Nostur?
Someone is putting his "proof of work".

That's a bit of my problem, even with the super simple routine I'm following right now. However, I figure that something basic is better than nothing, and I'd rather build up the habit of training daily than to go all-out twice in the first week...and never do it ever again, you know?
However, as I mentioned in my other note, there's still much room for improvement.
For starters, I think some more core drills are required!
Do you have any favourites that you'd recommend to someone relatively...pudgy?
Great routine. I've been doing a quick calisthenics routine every morning to kickstart the day, but I need to step it up like you. Thanks for the inspiration!
I wonder if the folks behind Signal, Session, and other freedom tools have looked onto using Pear to help distribute their tech once they get blocked.
It's a useful combination of tools, but I'd like to move more towards FOSS alternatives. So far, I've not found anything that combines the exact same combo though.

Any major benefits over Cake, Monfluo, or the like?
This sounds promising. I wonder how it will compare to Mostard?
Using Nym, I can still see ongoing conversation in #9q. No random characters. Though, plenty of nonsense conversations!
That's not bad at all. Did that include shipping? Mind shooting me a link to where you ordered from?
That's an oddly specific request!
If you make it over to #Thailand, this stuff costs about 70 Thai baht. At the present rate, that's about 2.15 US dollars.

Do we have many nostriches behind the Great Firewall? If so, what's the state of BTC adoption on the ground? I know Alipay is practically everywhere now, but is anyone still taking the risk to use Bitcoin (or even XMR) day-to-day? If so, what are the options for buying and spending your coins in the PC?

In #privacy news, I've just learned that Google pulled down some kind of Italian blog about the Latin Mass.
https://reclaimthenet.org/catholic-blog-messainlatino-removed
A couple of quick thoughts:
1. Why would Google want to censor religious news and discussion? What's in it for them?
2. How easy would it be to do a mass migration of blog articles for a site like that? Assuming they have a backup of their content, is there any way for them to post all of that content as articles to Nostr (without manually posting each one)?
3. Alternatively, moving forward, do we have any kind of tools that allow for Nostr back-up posting of blog articles? I know I've seen similar for Twitter notes, but has anyone built something similar for Nostr?

Thanks for the confirmation about Meshtastic. I'm just about to place an order for two of these little units:

If I like 'em, I can upgrade to other fancier equipment later on.
I know I'm a little late to the party here, but forgive me. I'm just discovering #Reticulum for the first time now.
Last night, I watched this video on YouTube about a guy named Juraj sending sats with a LoRa broadcast, using the Reticulum protocol and cashu.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAX8GFn5uCI
If I understand everything correctly, that broadcast is encrypted, so there's little threat of the tokens being stolen. As long as the cashu mint is still up and running, the recipient gets his sats and can convert them back to LN or even standard BTC thereafter. Super cool!
A colleague has started to use Google's NotebookLM to produce study guides, a podcast episode, etc. for his students to use. Admittedly, it's a neat little tool, but I do wonder if any FOSS and/or more privacy-related options exist.
For example, can I install and run a comparable, offline AI tool on my own desktop, something that will provide an AI-generated set of notes, a fictitious podcast episode, etc. for use in the classroom?
