It's not that I think people blanketly shouldn't do it. It's that most people have no need to, and many people couldn't figure it out anyway even if they tried. There is nuance to this and unfortunately everyone that replies to me about it wants to ignore that. Uninterested in discussing it further.
If you don't want to route payments you can use umbrel or start9 pretty easily.
