Eventually, the rest of the world came through with food donations. Norway, for instance, sent a dried cod product that they barely ate called stockfish.
That was 55 years ago. Now stockfish is an indispensable part of Nigerian cuisine. We spend tens of millions of dollars each year importing it from Norway.
I guess generosity pays.

My parents didn't have a lot of money, we ate the cheapest food available, things that you can't even find in UK supermarkets now. But the images of starving people in Biafra were harrowing, my parents gave what they could.
My concern is that now the world is looking the other way - the billionaire-run media will not show those images that are hard to see.
