leave steak out to reach room temp, season generously with salt & pepper, let absorb for 30 minutes, get the pan extremely hot, brown some butter, reduce to medium, brown the edges of the steak, then a few minutes each side

Mouth watering.

I like to finish in a 400 degree oven, keeping meat in a cast iron pan. 3 min, depending on thickness of cut. 5 min rest

I get medium/well consistently.

Haven't had much luck just searing in a pan.

Any tricks? Maybe it's the high heat and butter. 👍
