It’s good to remember that when a company tries to appear progressive/“woke”, they’re not aiming to be preachy about a cause, they’re merely trying to capture the business of as many demographics as possible. No publicly traded company has “values”, they have revenue models.

I think it's likely a bit more complicated than that. There's also pressure both from ESG as well as internal activist employees that push company policy / messaging in that direction.
Sure, but it’s still the same thing. Instead of “how can I make money”, it’s “how do I lose the least money” by submitting strategically. It’s still a marketing strategy.
Even with ESG, it’s about maximizing shareholder value rather than maximizing revenue, dif version of the same thing.
and I imagine that company leadership catering to internal activist employees is done to prevent bad publicity those activist employees may otherwise attract. That in turn, is just another form of trying to maximize the number of demographics that a company has as customers.
