As legacy social media becomes overrun with KYC, age verification, bans, and AI slop, Nostr stands as a screaming beacon of hope and freedom.
Discussion
It's almost like we anticipated where it was all headed & recognised the solution in nostr.
Being early can feel a lot like being late.
Mad props to all who contributed.
The future will be decentralised, even if it's inconvenient.
I was wondering the other day if relay operators could get hit with government action for not doing age verification.
if each person has their own relays and self-hosted servers, if they decide to apply the same fines to them as to large pages, a revolution could already occur there because of how they want to charge a simple person millions just for not applying that.
Run a private relay
In theory anyone running anything could get a government request, a relay isn't some black box on the Internet, but you can use TOR to help with privacy.
AI slop and spammers will increase as they realise they can get real money from zaps tho. Already seeing bot reply zap farming.. how do we deincentivize that?
People and bots have been farming for 3 years. There is no stop to it and it will only increase. I can't stop someone from zapping a bot. I'm sure I've zapped bots. Perhaps education? Perhaps AI to fit the AI?
True.. I guess the difference is on other social media, the bots are playing to the algo, generating engagement by any means including rage porn. On nostr they are appealing to the audience by adding value as there is no middleman. If an ai bot honestly entertains or adds value to me I would zap it.. V4V wins!
It's seems odd that Aussies get no fines for evading their own government's rules, but the (mostly) American companies will get fined for not doing enough to prevent Aussies from evading their rules.
