I bought myself a shoddy, old kiln today. It needs some repairs but it works. If I can find a shoddy, old kickwheel, I won't need to take any pottery classes. Those were fun because of the teacher, but I learn better through trial and error.

Looks like fun 🙌

Fixing it is going to be fun. It's really old 😅

Do you know when it was made? I'd imagine that old stone things are pretty solid and you can get it going again.

I think early-mid 70s, but the serial number plate is missing. The lid hinge needs to be replaced, and the dial is seized. Other than that it seems to be okay. It reached 730°. I figure thats not too bad for having a seized thermostat.

I found the manual & wiring diagrams online (or at least I think I did). The manufacturer still sells parts. It shouldn't be too hard to get it usable. I'm so excited. I'm gonna make all sorts of silly shit. 😅

I'd have to dig a minute, but I think #PaulWheaton has info on permies.com about heating a kiln with a #rocket heater.

hot stuff...

pun intended.

This one wouldn't be worth all that effort. It's pretty small.
