It would be awesome if adults could act accordingly without feeling judged for things they don’t know, and feel the need to defend an opinion that might be poorly thought out or based on a shaky foundation of knowledge.

I’ve noticed I’m often quick to look for flaws in arguments and lately try to defer judgement in favor of identifying things that make sense instead. It’s going to be an ongoing challenge for sure.

the only way forward is remaining widely curious about the world

It would be, but by nature we all feel like we need something to protect. I think... with a culture that diminishes the importance of the things worth protecting, people are left with a void so they defend what they then view as most vulnerable about themselves. Maybe I'm way off base, but the concept helps me view the world through less jaded eyes.

You'll teach your kids something much more valuable than whatever the answers to those "why" questions may be, just by showing them that you're willing to admit you don't know. Then you can learn the answers together (which is also super fun!)
