I heard this opinion pop up recently from ArticMine and Cryptocomicon on latest Monero Talk podcasts, but no I wouldn't say that is the general opinion of the community. It's still very much no-KYC as far as I can tell. Like someone else said below me in the comments, with further CEX delistings and scapegoating of Monero on white markets, I can't see any advantage to doing this as time goes on.
