The same varietal has been planted in several places around my area and they look pretty old. Probably all done at the same time. I wish I knew someone who could tell me what it is. Even a friend of mind has one but I think it was there when she moved in.

Sadly they aren’t fragrant and I don’t remember seeing any fruit. I think the anthers have turned into petals which might be why they are sterile.

Yes, but what variety is the question. They probably have hundreds just like Japanese maples.
