I do understand what you're feeling about "personal relationship". I struggle with that as well. A lot. Think of it this way: I know you love your wife because you talk about your family in nothing but positive language.

Do you trust her? That's the basis of your personal relationship with her.

I've come to trust God and Jesus and I think that's all there needs to be to my personal relationship with those two. The Holy Ghost thing I still don't understand at all so I just kind let that one float.

Someone once described the Holy Ghost thing to me as water in three forms. Solid, liquid and gas.

I think you’re probably right and that trust is a key part of the equation. I’ll have to overcome that hurdle at some point.

Read about Doubting Thomas. Understanding that God gave you the ability to reason and be skeptical. Some need more evidence than others.

Doubting Thomas’ story helped me get over a massive mental hurdle. I had guilt because I needed proof. And the guilt prevented me from seeing proof that show shown to me by God.
