Johann Mattheson's three remarks about the lute: "first of all: it is much too soft, noboby ever can hear it; second: the lute players are crap, they're not even able to play this most simple allemande and they're already very happy with whatever bad composition; and third: the lutenist tunes for ever but the lute is never in tune."
