Combine the like and and boost buttons. Think about what it means and how Twitter utilizes it. A like means the algorithm shows the tweet to more people. I think we only need like, quote, and Zaps.

Make the like button do what the boost does but combine the like/boosts in the feed so it only shows the latest one rather than tons of them when the note gets lots of them.

Simpler and better, imo.

When I like something, I'm voting for it, I want more people to see it. Same with a boost. Why do we need both?

With Zaps I was too reward someone.

With quotes I want to let people know what I think about the note via my own feed.

Am I wrong?

What client you on? What's this boost button?

Amethyst. It's like a retweet.

Gotcha, so boost is algorithmic?

Nah, just throws the note in the feed in the order it was boosted, I think.

My issue is, likes don't do what they did on Twitter. On there it acted like a kind of retweet and that was fine.

Ok, so a repost basically? If so then no need for it. I'm conflicted on the LIKE debate. I don't want anything algorithmic. I see the purpose for likes that aren't algorithmic. Obviously ZAPS are best but that might be a hurdle for adoption if there are no likes for engagement. 🤷‍♂️

I'm just thinking about the feed and the ability of smaller accounts with quality content to get seen. All a like does here is shows that you have liked it, but doesn't help the content to be seen more.

If the like actually acted like a retweet, then it would allow more people to see the content.

They'd have to make the client combine them though, so you don't end up with lots of the same tweet in your feed. It would just be chronologically in the feed where the latest person liked it. I assume this is possible and its quite transparent as an idea.

Just throwing it out there.

Gotcha, so you're proposing:

Like/Repost Quote Zap

Yep 👍

Only issue is that some people use the like button as an ack.

I agree, but does it matter? It still acts as that, but lots of acknowledgements mean that it's of greater interest and will probably be of interest to even more people.

Ah, you're thinking about the comments? I was only considering the feed. Hmm.

I suppose my answer still holds, but within the comments rather than the feed. Not as easy though.

I think it matters.

I use the like as an acknowledgement & agreement. I will not like something that I would rather have not seen.

I use the zap to signal that i derived some value from the note.

A like is an Event in Nostr, in the same way a note is. It is me expressing my agreement without having to type it out.

If you want to abandon likes (not see them or use them), you can always use snort.social

What are events?
