To me, It’s like a bazaar. The likes & commotion can draw the crowd in & the zaps are for the quality of content or to reward something.
I’m having a hard time seeing just zaps but I have not thought it through much.
A year ago, when I joined Nostr, it was mostly zaps. Now it's mostly likes.
For me the magic of Nostr was/is zapping. That was what blew me away in the beginning. It was the differentiator from other social media platforms. I think that's what it takes to get people hooked on Nostr.
Censorship resistance is nice, but let's be honest: most people don't give a shit.
If bitcoin is at 100k and they come here for the first time and get fucking bitcoin for comments, they'll love it and stay.
If they just get likes, they’ll leave again because other social media experiences are smoother.

Zaps draw creators as well & smart people. May keep the riffraff away. Cost of doing business etc.

Fair view. While I don’t believe people should be “bought” via #zaps I have noticed a huge different when I’ve zapped versus not. My original belief was most people are truly in it for freedom tech.
We agree: many don’t care. Considering the numbness so many face daily - outside of financial stress, etc … this makes sense.

I don’t agree with disabling them. I think there are use cases as nostr:npub1dergggklka99wwrs92yz8wdjs952h2ux2ha2ed598ngwu9w7a6fsh9xzpc pointed out. Also I’m all for the individual choice. It has to be emergent bottom up imo
