#echochamber #asknostr

I see the biggest drawback of nostr is the lack of content.

At the end, we need content that people care about, so they join, and remain browsing.

Lack of content could be because of content discovery or really missing notes.

But, one good point for nostr is its morr active user base in my opinion. Meaning with less followers, you still get moarr engagement. This is awesome!

So my questions are:

* how do we help creators for content discovery?

* how do we help content seekers for content discovery?

* what tools are out there?

I agree, I just wrote a note about that this morning and put it in all caps lol.

Followed you.

Perhaps you could boost my note and put the hashtag #grownostr on, as I forgot 🤦‍♀️

Followed back! đź«‚ #plebchain

Have you ever wondered why the other platforms have so much “content”?

Hint: The product on those other platforms isn’t the polished videos and oh-so-palatable, algorithm-driven nonsense. The product on those other platforms is YOU. YOU are being sold.

Your attention, your clicks, your eye movements, etc. The “content” you’ve been conditioned to expect is just advertisement, carefully packaged and curated for us to poison ourselves on.

#Nostr doesn’t need this. Here, the content is ideas and controversial opinions that you have to seek out for yourself. You have to develop an appetite for getting offended and listening to others who disagree with you.

Otherwise, you’re just a product my friend. Dare to break the mold.

With most of the things, I agree.

Firstly I would address, that I disagree with the sentiment, that

"nostr is different, so it is good as it is".

Somehow from your comment, I feel this. I might be wrong.

But if true, this is a wrong attitude in my opinion. The fact that nostr is different or not, shall not be connected with improvement. We all can improve, and improve the things we do.

Secondly content discovery is a general thing. E.g. If you work at a big company, and you make projects. You will generate lots of shit documentation, which was intended to be useful, but if people coming later, or starting other projects can't find it, it is useless.

So I don't say that the content on nostr is bad. It is what it is. I was only asking if there are already ways for

▶️ content creators to find their audiance easier,

▶️ people to find their creators easier.

And I don't only mean official content creators here. Even grandmas can have good content who just do it out of fun. But if we have ways to make content discoverable more easily, we make connecting between people easier, and even find weird connections that would not be possible otherwise.

Thank you for a great and well-reasoned reply.

I do appreciate your point about opportunities for improvement. There are definitely many ways in which #Nostr can and hopefully will improve. It is very young tech after all.

That the growth happens in a way that protects the fundamental purpose of the technology (Ie: censorship resistance), as opposed to merely recycling the same tired top down strategies of the advertisement based platforms, is where I hope to see things go though.

In that way it really can be the content that has value, as opposed to the number (or rather suggestibility) of users.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts! :)

nostr:npub18ams6ewn5aj2n3wt2qawzglx9mr4nzksxhvrdc4gzrecw7n5tvjqctp424 mentioned yesterday that if you only follow a couple hundred npubs on Nostr then the feed will feel empty because of no algorithm. I’ve been trying to follow more npubs. I think the tools to really help with content discovery aren’t ready yet. I’ve seen some proposed Data vending machine projects that are working on this. Don’t know answer just trying to move the conversation.

I also heard about algorithm DVMs. I think nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft created one. Not sure about others.

Do you know if there are tools to aid discoverability?

Will keep an eye out, nothing comes to mind at the moment. But I feel like I’ve run across some projects that address this. Can you expand on what you mean specifically by discoverability? So we can be sure we’re speaking the same language?

There’s a few nostr content discovery DVMs, like the one you can interface with in fomostr.com

Absolutely. We have to be our own algorithms.

Also realized that I’m missing a fair amount of content because I’m not on enough or the right relays. Added some relays and additional content and people showed up. I wonder if in the future topic specific relays will be a thing?

Hmmm true. Good point! Relays also effect what you see.

I think it really depends on relay operators, and can be harder to filter for specific topics, and discard other notes.

But could be possible, and maybe good.
