Opium opiate opioid are different words for a reason. If you think opiates and opioids are the same thing idk what to tell you.

You’re arguing semantics in an area of medicine and pharmacology that is imperfect and not universally agreed upon. The class of drugs is opioid. Opiate is a less frequently used term that describes the naturally derived alkyloid from the poppy. In practice, we use synthetic, semisynthetic and natural to describe drugs within this class. Drugs like fentanyl are synthetic opiods, which as an anesthesiologist I use every day. Not sure what your background is, but it’s clearly not clinical medicine.
It’s imperfect but I’m factually wrong, right? The entire point was to say, opioids generally refer to opiate based compounds synthesized in a lab. Opium and opioids are different and you know that. That was the original point to the troll who initially commented. I don’t care what you think about my background because similarly to “you” I was a pre med student and I have a significant background in toxicology.
