What about bitcoin do you think is broken exactly?
The need for creative destruction in the bitcoin podcast "industry" is fucking real.
Once a person who is not involved in the production of functional things is too influential over the public opinion, there becomes a growing bifrication between reality and perception of the industry. This could be said of any industry. If there were a bunch of likeable dudes making content about construction, but who had zero experience building things, listeners will just generally think that the guy talking at them twice a week about the need for more shear walls in a 10 story wood frame building and the necessity of fire caulking the 3 million 7/8 holes in top and bottom plates has any applicable problem solving experience and has an opinion that should hold any weight.
You can talk to the people who build things all you want, but until you start your own PoW, you are not a God damn expert.
I have no hate for the guy, but nostr:npub1cf3zeytdnwgwzz5pk2ax0vvmmlzad03xcft4d50ejrfhsh8pxcdsefx7gk is the perfect example of this. The bitcoin magazine hardline take on ordinals/brc 20 stuff just seems like an attempt to influence the ignorant into thinking that builders should avoid fixing structural issues.
Saying that an unintended consequence of a change is what it is and now we just have to live with it, is out of step with industry, and with reality. If a building is swaying in a way that could be problematic because of a change in construction material, you don't say "well, I guess it's just going to sway like that forever." You increase the support and prove out the structure.
Then again, I'm just a dummy who builds buildings...
Discussion
My opinion about things being broken in the protocol is as irrelevant as yours, I just don't think weighing in against the good faith builders with the number of followers in your orbit is productive or a good idea.
Sorry to tag you specifically, there are lots of names I could throw out that would fall into the same category. When influencers like yourself get too big for their britches they end up thinking that their opinion is more valuable than it really is. Because of the influence they have over the ignorant followers in their own community, they actually do have a certain (albeit minute) sway over the protocol.
Just like how the longer you've been in the space the more compounding you've seen in both your knowledge and your stack, your feelings of validation and confidence expand as your body of work grows. The problem is, without practical experience in the building of things, you don't have the perspective to back your beliefs or knowledge. I think my analogy around construction is an apt one. I'll try another:
A streamer who streams a particular video game and plays that game really well, and has been playing for years, has a great understanding of the game and how to play it. He also has a considerable influence on what is popular within that game's community. That doesn't mean he knows the first thing about what changes will break that game. Even the devs often don't know, but it requires constant maintenance and actively looking for potential problems in order to find them before they become consequential.
That's why when someone who is able to point out potential problems from a position of practical experience does so, the correct course of action is to investigate, corroborate, collaborate, and eliminate by the least invasive means possible.
Again, sorry to pick on you when i could easily have put another influencer like nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx or whoever else on the other side of the particular debate that was on my mind.
Merry Christmas
Thanks for your opinion.
I don’t really consider myself an influencer or streamer, but I guess I did do that for a number of years.
I reject the premise that some “builders” are the big boys and can make fixes to Bitcoin and that everyone else should keep quiet. Thats what ethereum culture is like.
Anyone with a well thought out good faith opinion should speak their mind and participate in the space in whatever way they are capable.
Happy new years fam.
