Korea Zinc Backs Trump Plan For Deep Sea Mining
The company is currently in the midst of an ownership battle between its chairman and a private-equity firm. Yun B. Choi, the grandson of one of Korea Zinc’s co-founders, is fighting to keep the company in Korean hands.
He accuses MBK, headed up by South Korea’s second-richest person, Michael ByungJu Kim—who owns a handful of Chinese companies and is backed by several Chinese investors—of being a corporate raider. MBK has promised not to sell Korea Zinc to the Chinese.
