purposeful action by ants (that can't be simulated by a biased random walker):

1. they swarm and attack things that mess with their anthills

2. they bring food back after finding it

3. if they notice a threat they'll flee at speed

4. (new!) on a hot day on hot asphalt they'll seek shade.

last verified by moving a skate several times and watching the ant chase the shade.
