For a while people were really upset at x-ray body scanners at airports, but then they replaced them with the (maybe?) less harmful, and significantly more useless/placebo, millimeter wave machines that everyone just accepts now, globally .. except in the US where people also accept shoe removal (the shoe bomber was also likely an FBI plant). No other country requires shoe removal, but you'll watch the majority of people just do it anyway out of habit.

I went out with some friends and one bar we went to said they needed to scan all our IDs. I said, "I don't let people scan my ID" (I have a sticker on the back to prevent it). They let me though anyway, but this girl called me an asshole for making a big deal about it. I said I wasn't an asshole, I got them to opt me out, they could have all opted out too. She didn't understand tracking, "they track us anyway," .. "they don't track me. I don't even have any Google services on my phone. I run ad block. ... and even if no one else does what I do, I can help everyone reduce their tracking footprint."
It got heated and she said something retarded and I slapped the table at one point. Then her fat boyfriend said if I hate the table again he'd break my nose. I apologized for hitting the table, but I reminded him it was her girlfriend who started all this. It was her who called me an asshole!
The subject was changed and we moved on. Everyone else was nice.

One of my best friends is dating someone new. He hasn't had a girlfriend in years and she seems really nice. I'm really happy for him and I try to remember that about tonight .. but I'm not happy about tonight. I really hate people in general right now.
One of my friends in Chicago was a cop. He was into folk music and had contra dances at his house. The friend I sat next to in church back in high school, his dad was a cop and an elder .. although he was kinda a dick to his wife, but they're still married. ... there are a mix of good and bad people everywhere dude.
The military isn't the police. Having the two separate is a concept that's only a century or three old.
Cops are not all that smart (most departments don't accept candidates who test too high). In most cases, the problem isn't really the cops. It's the laws and training. Cops are mostly drones. Only a few get promoted to actual detectives (and most of them are dumb drones too).
How the cops get taught and trained makes an impact. The body camera era also has a massive impact. Defunding or getting rid of police makes areas way worse. Before the era of the constable and British Common law, you had a lot of vigilantism and arbitrary not-rules.
Hating cops is really a luxury belief for people in richer communities.
On the flip side, ICE and the IRS are becoming more militaristic and less like constables. That's the real danger. When your police acts like your military, the people tend to become the enemies of the state. Everyone celebrating ICE raids is too dumb to realize this will easily turn back on them, just like the mandatory citizen checkpoints with 100 miles of the US border under W. Bush.
