The statement that Bitcoin was perfect the second it was released was never true, as acknowledged by Satoshi.
Satoshi had special code to do hot patches when problems happened and oversaw at least one critical bug. He also coordinated with others to find better ways to implement code and improve Bitcoin, and encouraged future maintenance of the code base.
When people say “Bitcoin was perfect from inception” they’re talking about the economics of it, not the technical implementation.

I hope if Satoshi were still around he would be proud of all the work others have done to continue his vision.
Not so sure. And it wasn't perfect, it was perfect enough to start the bootstrap, which is something when the genie is out of the bottle, one cannot do again.
