There are alternatives, they just aren't "the best" or "industry standard". GIMP to replace Photoshop. Blender to replace 3DS Max. Olive Video Editor.

When it comes to print graphics, Adobe sets the standard. Impossible to work with the alternatives. Inkscape is not Illustrator, GIMP is not Photoshop, Indesign and Acrobat are irreplaceable.
Fair enough. I'm not a professional artist so my needs for programs like these are pretty basic.
