If the opportunity cost for the hardware is zero, and I have solar panels, then its just a matter of my time.
That would be a couple of minutes of my actual attention, since I've built XMRig before.

Well with unused hardware and solar panels it might pay off, even if it s just some sats per day.
If you have to pay electricity, usually it doesnt pay off, depends where you live though.

unfortunately in Florida you need hurricane insurance and they will not insure a roof with solar panels because it could have been structurally compromised.
and there isn't as much space in Florida as in Australia so i can't just use a ground array.
but solar roof tiles are improving. i expect by the time roof needs replacing the tech will be hurricane proof to the point where insurance will cover it.
