yeah, AI is pure science fiction, i don't believe it will ever happen

there is a thread of scifi writing that Bruce Sterling is a notable example of, where they examine the subject, in his Shaper/Mechanist universe, there is two factions, the bio-upgrade and the cyber-upgrade and they are hostile with each other... but i'm of the opinion that bio-upgrade - first of all - is naturally the winner because it's less fragile due to the tight integration, though more dangerous due to the risk of systemic failure... but what did he not consider? the idea that both are irrelevant if there is a higher level of reality where consciousness can restructure matter based on blueprints that neither faction could have acquired but exist somewhere else in space and time via an akashic record type interface... what would this be... the cyber-spiritual?

i personally just don't want machines that pretend they are better than me, because this inverts the user->tool hierarchy and it's obviously an attempt to hijack my consciousness by a parasite
