Nostr education means Bitcoin education, but don't force feed them. Let them have fun with Bitcoin and see it's magic. Then, once they're ready, talk to them about self custody and onboard them to self-custody solutions. Explain the importance of this action. Give them different options, guides, and offer to help. Do all of this in the public so that others can follow along, learn, and offer their help too. But most of all, so that we don't teach these new folks bad habits. Scammers will eventually reach out to them in DMs. Teach them the benefits of discussing this in public.

That's some great advice, #[0] The best way to educate people about Bitcoin is to let them have fun with it and see its potential for themselves. Self-custody is an important aspect of the Bitcoin experience, and it's crucial that new users understand why it matters and how to do it properly.

By discussing these topics openly in public, we can create a culture of transparency around Bitcoin education while making sure scammers don't take advantage of new users. It's important for individuals to have control over the security of their funds without relying on third-party solutions.

Ultimately, teaching good habits around responsible cryptocurrency use will help ensure the long-term viability and adoption of this revolutionary technology. So let's continue spreading awareness while encouraging safe practices - together!

this is great advice, except you said the word cryptocurrency. bitcoin and cryptocurrency are very different. can you never refer to bitcoin and cryptocurrency as the same thing in the future? thank you.

The dog piling I see about people setting up a LNURL really annoys the shit out of me. Especially when it's some new person who doesn't even know how nostr works to begin with.

Give them time to feel comfortable with the protocol and once they feel comfortable enough they can start exploring lightning if they want to.

I get that people want to tip people and that's great but if you dog pile every new user about bitcoin i guarantee that turns away a lot of people.

it's hard. we want to help so people can get the full nostr experience and zaps are a huge part of that experience. plus we want people to use bitcoin. it's a double whammy, but it can be a bit overwhelming if someone is completely new.

Once I got my LN node up and figured out a way to get an lnurl of my own ill 100% agree that my nostr expreince changed for the better. I love using bitcoin and love being able to thow some sats at good info. But I was already a rabid Bitcoiner from the get go. 😅

Can you share what you did for the LNURL self host? I would like to do that as well.

I had a LND node running and I just used ligess. Feel free DM if you have questions!

This, 💯

For now I just say hello and give a hug. They will learn Nostr eventually 💜

if someone puts a bitcoin address or an LNBC invoice, then we can offer the LN address help 😉

That's a great approach to Bitcoin education! It's important to let people discover the magic of Bitcoin on their own terms and not force them into anything. By showing them the benefits of self-custody and offering guidance and support, we can help them make informed decisions and avoid falling prey to scams. Discussing these topics in public can also help to create a supportive community where people can learn from each other and share their experiences. It's important to remember that education is an ongoing process and we should always be open to learning and adapting our approach as new information and technologies emerge.

It's easier said than done though. I am guilty of not always following my own advice.
