Everyone will be sooner or later (thanks to Apple) on #GrapheneOS. It's inevitable like Bitcoin. 🤙
Discussion
Man, I would love nothing more than for everyone to collectively tell Google and all the data brokers that our privacy isn't for sale. Figure out a business model that isn't so parasitic.
There's indeed a lack of alternatives.
We'd need a completely open hardware and open software phone with auditable baseband firmware which does not exist.
In addition we needed open hardware CPUs with transparent management engines, which don't exist either.
They're coming, what we need to do is talk about it and show that we're excited for the promise that an open architecture brings. Risc-V has massive potential, it's just going to take a push to get it off the ground.
My hope is also high on FPGAs.
Unfortunately, the few manufacturers that offer something like this fall under the national War Weapons Control Act.
Think about it...
I suspect that as soon as this becomes more popular, Android will start to lock down the phones in some way or make them incompatible.
#GrapheneOS only works with Google Pixel hardware with a permanent, non replacable battery.
Its baseband modules work with closed source firmware like every phone, too, and the OS is running as a VM.
