If you thought "smart" tvs couldn't get any shittier: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/02/walmart-buying-tv-brand-vizio-for-its-ad-fueling-customer-data/

Honestly, I just want a DUMB tv at this point. Don't show me a damn thing unless I install it.

check out commercial tvs (vs consumer). because they're used for signage, they tend to have fewer "smart features" and better privacy/security. you can often find them used.

Cost more for less features, but 100% worth it for better privacy and reduced attack surface.

Solved the problem by tossing the TV and using a monitor connected to a mini-pc. Image quality is much better and I have full control of everything. Plus, being in socialist italy, I don't pay the tv possession tax. :-)

Smart.

"Smart" TV's remain dumb monitors if you don't connect them to an access point.

An attached device that is connected can create a risk. Particularly with Samsung and Sony

That's repeating what I just said.

Most people connect TVs to devices like Bluray players, Media streamers etc. These are attack vectors

Ah. Now I see what you meant.
