Smoking weed was a major barrier for me. I smoked daily for years and lacked motivation and drive. After quitting there was a noticeable shift in my perception and in my cognitive function. Like a veil was lifted. The change was so profound I have never had another puff in over 20years.!

This is the case with many people. I often hear you cannot get addicted to weed yet i can't find a better term to describe it if you use it on a near-daily basis.
Something starts nagging at you to do something, then you smoke and that feeling disappears, escaping that nagging feeling for the day. The next day it will be there again probably.
I'm happy to hear you overcame your barrier!
Well said. It is a different addiction to say nicotine. But I (as I think a lot of Bitcoiner’s share) have an addictive personality and develop habits and routines very easily that can be hard to break.
Yes, it's a problem-avoiding addiction. In that sense you could exchange the weed with anything that draws the attention away from a nagging battle going on inside your head, like watching tv or playing videogames.
Most people learn over time that these issues do not go away because you can avoid them for a while. In the end they grow and need resolution. Might as well get it over with asap.
