What’s the reasoning behind claiming that weed is good for you?

I don’t see it in my surroundings. All friends who are smoking experience major drawbacks in life. Lack of motivation, neurosis, sleep deprivation when off etc.

I’m genuine curious to learn about it.

I work at a dispensary. A lot of people use THC as a sleep aid, in addition to products containing CBN, a cannabinoid known to help with sleep. I personally use CBD for inflammation from some old injuries, my dog too for arthritis. I use cannabis to relax, just as some do with alcohol.

As with any other drug, it's on you to use it correctly.

THCV seems to help regulating insuline. Starting to think that CBN is the rockstar

They have less stress.

Well… but for what costs?

About $50 an 8th.

Whoa. I'm in Canada, post legalisation it is starting about US$75 an oz. I've got eighths for 10 bucks!

😭

😂😂😂😂😂

Research the effects of CBD and THC on the neurodiverse mind. People with ADD/ADHD and/or autism/asperger's experience the high from weed very differently.

A few drops of CBD oil a day keeps my life under my control. THC + CBD is even better, but can't easily buy them legally from medical stores (although they are available). The only reason I am sticking to CBD-only is because I don't want to consume weed by smoking.

This.

The difference between poison and medicine is the dose, frequency and purpose. I can cleared recognize this patterns in daily based users.

I would recommend giving this a listen :)

Very nicely explained different use cases + plus some American history of prohibition intertwined with bitcoin.

Can't go wrong :)

I heard about helping with anxiety issues.

Also CBD has many uses in healthcare (but of course smoking is not the best application 😁)

But generally I find much more interesting the "mushrooms" and similar substances like lsd, dht etc.

Smoking weed was a major barrier for me. I smoked daily for years and lacked motivation and drive. After quitting there was a noticeable shift in my perception and in my cognitive function. Like a veil was lifted. The change was so profound I have never had another puff in over 20years.!

This is the case with many people. I often hear you cannot get addicted to weed yet i can't find a better term to describe it if you use it on a near-daily basis.

Something starts nagging at you to do something, then you smoke and that feeling disappears, escaping that nagging feeling for the day. The next day it will be there again probably.

I'm happy to hear you overcame your barrier!

Well said. It is a different addiction to say nicotine. But I (as I think a lot of Bitcoiner’s share) have an addictive personality and develop habits and routines very easily that can be hard to break.

Yes, it's a problem-avoiding addiction. In that sense you could exchange the weed with anything that draws the attention away from a nagging battle going on inside your head, like watching tv or playing videogames.

Most people learn over time that these issues do not go away because you can avoid them for a while. In the end they grow and need resolution. Might as well get it over with asap.

Like everything else in life, it depends on how much you consume. I've been smoking weed for over 30 years and I cannot say that I had major drawbacks. However, like alcohol (or other drugs), weed isn't for everyone and I wouldn't say it's good for you but it's also not bad.

There's pro's and cons like with everything. What for some people is a downside is an upside for other people, depending from person to person. I don't think there's a single general benefit that fits every person.

However:

- Because your thought patterns change you can become more creative or it can help you relax.

- It can either remove (social) anxiety but also induce it.

- It can give you an overall better appreciation for things.

- It can increase your appetite, which can be either good or bad again, depending on the situation.

Like with most things moderation is key here if your intentions are to try to improve your life and not escape (the problems in) your life.

There isn't a monolithic thing you take called 'weed'...Most people completely fail to understand this...even the ones who take it. So if you see all your friends who smoke a sleep inducing chemical concoction they call 'weed' of course you will think they are lazy, unmotivated, dozy, etc.

The reality is there are a plethora of effects it can have for people some beneficial some not depending on the person and what they want to do.

To clarify obviously 'weed' is used to refer to something from the Cannabis genus comprising of 3 main plant types and almost endless hybrid combinations. But saying weed has these effects is kind of wrong when you consider the miriad of different chemical combinations it can have.

If you want a get an idea of the variation ofeffects of some types of 'weed' go huff a load of lavender oil that's 'weed' or smell some 'limonene' that's 'weed' too. One gets you relaxed and sleepy the other makes you happy. There is even 'weed' that makes you energic like having a cup of coffee

It's an addiction, a very damaging one and they love to regurgitate positives which are really net negatives to justify their addiction.

Some people have an endocanabinoid system that underperforms. This seems to be linked with a whole lot of chronic Illnesses. I take it for chronic pain. My father takes it for Parkinson.

Cannabis as medicine has a bell shaped efficiency curve in most cases. As you increase the dosage so does the benefit. However, if you keep increasing the benefits start to vanish. My Dr recommend that I stay between 0.5 and 1.5g a day.

As other medicines, it has sides effect. You mentioned a few but there is more.

The best is to work on helping our own endocannabinoid system to produce the good stuff. Infusions of rosmarin and oregano can help. Eating basil. Exercising. Reducing stress…

To me cannabis means being able to do to some extents, being able to rest. I smoke it, I spasm for a few minutes and I sort of pressed the reset button for my tensions.

Last but not least, cannabis isn’t a plant. It’s a familly of plants with very different profiles. Not all are good for me. Some hurt me.

It helps (right stuff) with insomnia

For me personally, it's bad... For others, not my problem...

But overall I think this glamourification of a drug (any drug, Cannabis, Advil, Cocaine, etc...) to be at least weird and damaging.

i had one software engineer friend who smoked weed all day and he was insanely productive. he smoked weed cause he had anxiety.

Whats the reasoning behind claiming weed is a drug and can be bad for you?

where did he claim this?

It’s not good for you. But to steelman it is less bad than many, perhaps most, mind altering substances commonly viewed as alternatives.
