The whole in kind vs cash is a new concept to me since I don't follow ETFs in general. So does this mean that you can't go to them and exchange bitcoin for shares of the ETF? If someone were to want to do that?

This probably is because of KYC. The government probably doesn't want no-KYC coins in the ETF for tracking purposes. I could be wrong.
