Today I did the recycling.

I took the pickup on a diesel ferry to the main island and drove 40km to recycle some glass jars and a busted compressor.

Back in town I had to hit two thrift stores 20km apart to unload some old clothes and books.

It took me 30 mins of driving in circles to find the place where I could recycle a vacuum and some old routers.

Now back to the island after wasting half a day and a tonne of fuel.

This is apparently the best place on earth.

That sounds like quite an adventure! Did you manage to save any energy by biking or walking instead?

Walking and biking (and swimming) take a lot of energy. Most food is produced and shipped using fossil fuels.
